Beef Teriyaki Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams beef (thinly sliced)
  • 1 red bell pepper (sliced)
  • 2 large green chilies (sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 cm piece ginger (grated)
  • A small piece of galangal (grated)
  • 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • 3 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
  • 1 large onion (sliced)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/2 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 3 tablespoons cooking oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef: Begin by thinly slicing the beef and ensuring it is clean.

  2. Marinate the Beef: In a bowl, combine the minced garlic, grated ginger, and grated galangal. Add these to the bowl containing the sliced beef. Pour in the sweet soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, granulated sugar, ground black pepper, and salt. Mix everything thoroughly to ensure the beef is evenly coated with the marinade. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, though marinating for up to 1 hour is recommended to allow the flavors to fully penetrate the meat.

  3. Prepare Vegetables: While the beef marinates, slice the onion, red bell pepper, and green chilies.

  4. Cook the Beef: Heat the cooking oil and butter in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the marinated beef to the pan. Stir frequently to ensure even cooking.

  5. Add Vegetables: When the beef is almost cooked through, add half of the sliced onion to the pan. Continue cooking, then add the remaining onion along with the bell pepper and green chilies. Stir well to combine.

  6. Simmer: Cover the pan with a lid to allow the flavors to meld and to tenderize the beef. Cook until the sauce reduces and the beef becomes tender. If the sauce starts to dry out too quickly, you can add a splash of water.

  7. Final Adjustments: Once the sauce has reduced to your desired consistency and the beef is tender, taste and adjust seasoning if needed.

  8. Serve: Serve your delicious beef teriyaki hot, garnished as desired.

Enjoy this savory and slightly sweet beef teriyaki dish with steamed rice or noodles. It’s perfect for a weeknight dinner or any time you’re craving a taste of Japanese-inspired cuisine.
