Simple Stir-Fried Beef with Sweet Soy Sauce (Tumis Kecap Daging Sapi Simple)

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams beef
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 6 shallots
  • 1/2 finger-sized piece ginger
  • 1/2 finger-sized piece kencur (aromatic root, optional)
  • Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis), to taste
  • Salt, to taste
  • Sugar, to taste
  • 1 kaffir lime leaf
  • 1 stalk lemongrass
  • 2 stalks green onions (scallions)
  • Cooking oil, as needed
  • Seasoning powder (e.g., Royco), a pinch
  • Water, as needed

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef:

    • Boil the beef in a pot of water until fully cooked and tender. Once cooked, drain and let it cool slightly before slicing into bite-sized pieces according to your preference.
  2. Prepare the Aromatics:

    • Finely chop the garlic, shallots, ginger, and kencur (if using). Set the green onions aside for later use.
  3. Sauté the Aromatics:

    • Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped garlic, shallots, ginger, and kencur. Sauté until fragrant and golden brown.
