Simple Tempe Bacem Recipe

Ingredients:

Tempe 1 piece
Lemongrass 1 stalk (optional)
Bay leaves 2 leaves
Brown sugar To taste
Salt To taste
Masako seasoning To taste
Monosodium glutamate To taste (optional)
Tamarind To taste
Coconut water If unavailable, use regular water
Cooking oil For frying

Instructions:

  1. Begin by placing the tempe into a skillet.
  2. Add the pre-ground spice paste along with the bay leaves, lemongrass, salt, Masako seasoning, brown sugar, monosodium glutamate (if using), and tamarind.
  3. Pour in the coconut water, then turn on the heat and stir all the ingredients together until well combined.
  4. Allow the mixture to simmer until the liquid reduces, stirring occasionally to ensure even cooking.
  5. Once most of the liquid has evaporated and the tempe is well-seasoned, add a bit of cooking oil and stir for a few more moments.
