Tempe Tahu Bacem: A Savory Indonesian Delight

Ingredients

Ingredient Amount
Tempe 1 block
Tahu (tofu) 3 pieces
Spice Paste:
Shallots 8 cloves
Garlic 5 cloves
Coriander 1 tsp
Tamarind 2 pieces
Brown Sugar To taste
Salt To taste
Sweet Soy Sauce To taste
Galangal (crushed) To taste
Powdered Stock To taste

Instructions

  1. Begin by slicing the tempeh and tofu into your desired shapes. Then, prepare the spice paste by blending together shallots, garlic, and coriander until smooth.

  2. In a pan, heat a small amount of oil and sauté the spice paste until fragrant. Add the crushed galangal and the tamarind pieces to enhance the flavor, followed by a splash of water and sweet soy sauce to create a rich sauce.

  3. Once the mixture is simmering, gently introduce the tempeh and tofu into the pan, ensuring they are well-coated with the flavorful sauce. Let them simmer until the liquid reduces and thickens, infusing the tempeh and tofu with the savory essence.

  4. After the liquid has mostly evaporated, set the tempeh and tofu aside. In a separate pan, heat oil for frying.

  5. Once the oil is hot, fry the tempeh and tofu pieces until they turn golden brown and crispy on the outside.

  6. Carefully remove them from the oil and let them drain on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

  7. Serve hot, garnished as desired, and enjoy this delicious Tempe Tahu Bacem as a delightful accompaniment to rice or as a standalone snack.

This dish combines the ultimate fusion of flavors and textures, making it a perfect addition to your culinary repertoire!
