Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Start by cutting the tofu into large cubes. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat and add olive oil. Fry the tofu cubes until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Once done, remove from heat and let them cool slightly.

  2. Make the Peanut Sauce: In a dry pan, toast the ground peanuts, red chili peppers, candlenuts, shallots, garlic, and any other desired spices until fragrant and cooked through. Transfer the toasted ingredients to a blender, adding water gradually, and blend until smooth.

  3. Cook the Sauce: Pour the blended mixture into a saucepan. Add tamarind water, sweet soy sauce, tomato sauce, salt, and brown sugar. Adjust the thickness of the sauce by adding more water if needed. Simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and flavors meld together.

  4. Assemble the Sate: Thread the fried tofu cubes onto skewers. You can grill or broil the skewers briefly to heat them through.

  5. Serve: Arrange the tofu skewers on a serving plate and generously drizzle the warm peanut sauce over them. For an added touch, serve with lime wedges for a zesty finish.

Tips

  • Feel free to adjust the spice level by adding more or fewer chili peppers according to your taste.
  • This dish can be served as a snack, appetizer, or as part of a larger meal.
