Ingredients
- 1 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup cheese, shredded
- 3/4 cup green onion, chopped
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 1 cup cooked turkey or chicken, shredded
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Crescent rolls (optional)
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius).
-
Prepare the Filling:
- In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded turkey or chicken, shredded cheese, chopped mushrooms, chopped green onion, mayonnaise, salt, and pepper. Mix until well blended.
-
If Using Crescent Rolls:
- Take the crescent roll dough out of the tube.
- Flatten each triangle as much as possible, then spoon the filling into the center and fold over the corners.
- Proceed to step 12.
-
If Making Dough from Scratch:
- In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the oil and cut it in until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
- Pour in the milk all at once and stir until it forms a soft ball of dough.
-
On a lightly floured surface, turn the dough out and knead lightly 20-25 times.
-
Roll out the dough until it reaches a thickness of 1/8 to 1/4 inch.
-
Cut the dough into 4-inch squares or rounds.
-
Place about 2 1/2 tablespoons of the filling in the center of each dough square or round.
-
Fold each square or round over the filling and seal the edges. A little water can be used to moisten the edges for easier sealing.
-
Place the filled turnovers on an ungreased cookie sheet.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the turnovers are light brown at the edges.
-
