Ingredients:

Quantity Ingredient
2 Small potatoes
1/2 Pound lean ground beef
1/4 Onion
1 Mixed red and green sweet pepper
1/2 Teaspoon salt
1/2 Teaspoon black pepper
1/2 Teaspoon onion powder
1/2 Teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 Beef bouillon cube
1/2 Cup butter
1/2 Cup flour
1 1/2 Teaspoons baking powder
1/2 Teaspoon salt
1 Egg
4 – 6 Cup water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Meat Filling:

    • In a bowl, mix together the spices, diced bell peppers, diced onion, and ground meat thoroughly.
    • Brown the meat in 1 teaspoon of olive oil in a skillet until it’s cooked, which usually takes about 10 minutes.
  2. Add Potatoes:

    • Once the ground beef is cooked, add the diced cooked potatoes to the skillet and heat for an additional 5 minutes.
  3. Adjust Seasoning:

    • Taste the meat mixture and adjust the amount of spices according to your taste preferences.
  4. Prepare Dough:

    • Sift together the dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, and salt) in a large bowl.
    • Cut the butter into the dry ingredients using a fork or pastry cutter until the mixture is crumbly.
    • While mixing with a wooden spoon, add water a tablespoon at a time until the dough holds together in a ball. The amount of water needed may vary depending on the humidity of your flour.
    • If the dough crumbles, add a little more water by drops until the particles adhere.
  5. Roll Out Dough:

    • Lightly flour your work surface (counter top or cutting board) and roll out the dough until it’s approximately 1/8 inch thick.
  6. Cut Dough Circles:

    • Use a cutter to cut out 6-8 inch circles from the rolled-out dough.
    • If the dough becomes sticky or too soft while working with it, refrigerate it for 10 minutes to cool.
  7. Assemble Pies:

    • Place two teaspoons of the meat stuffing in the center of each pastry circle.
    • Moisten the edges of the dough with water and fold the top half of the dough circle over the filling to form a half-circle shape. Pinch the edges together with a fork to seal.
  8. Egg Wash:

    • Once all the patties are formed, lightly brush the tops with beaten egg.
  9. Bake:

    • Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC).
    • Place the assembled meat pies on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
    • Bake for 35 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Serve and Enjoy:

    • Once baked, remove the meat pies from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.
    • These West African Meat Pies/Patties are delicious when served warm and make a perfect meal for any occasion!

Enjoy making and sharing these flavorful West African Meat Pies/Patties with your loved ones! ๐ŸฅŸ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ
