Ingredients:
- 2 cups Whole Wheat Flour
- 1-1/2 cups Curd (Dahi / Yogurt)
- 1/2 cup Water
- 3 Green Chillies (ground to paste)
- 3 tablespoons Coriander (Dhania) Leaves, finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon Oil
- 1 teaspoon Cumin seeds (Jeera)
- Ghee (as needed for smearing)
- Salt, to taste
Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Cook Time: 25 minutes
Yields: 10 chapatis
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Dough:
In a large saucepan or vessel, add the yogurt, cumin seeds (jeera), green chilli paste, chopped coriander leaves, salt, and oil. Whisk everything together until smooth and lump-free. Gradually add 1/2 cup of water and mix well. -
Cook the Mixture:
Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat. Once it starts boiling, lower the flame and pour the whole wheat flour into the center of the vessel, allowing it to cook on low heat for 4 to 5 minutes. -
Combine the Dough:
Turn off the heat and, using a wet wooden stick or spatula, vigorously mix the ingredients until they form a dough. This should take about 2 minutes. Let the dough cool slightly before covering it and allowing it to cool until you can handle it with your hands. -
Knead the Dough:
Knead the dough thoroughly for 5 to 6 minutes. Divide the dough into 10 equal portions and shape each portion into a small round ball. -
Roll the Chapatis:
Roll each dough ball into a flat “peda” (round, flattened ball) by dusting it with some wheat flour. You can either roll each chapati one by one and roast them immediately or roll all of them, stacking them on top of each other with flour in between each chapati. -
Roast the Chapatis:
Heat a tava (griddle) over medium-high heat. Place a chapati on the tava and cook it until small bubbles appear. Flip it over and cook the other side until golden. Smear with ghee or oil on both sides while roasting. Repeat for all chapatis. -
Serve:
Serve the Spicy Yogurt Chapatis with Panchmel Dal and Bharwa Besan Mirch Sabzi for a fulfilling weekday lunch or dinner. They are also perfect for packing in your lunch box!
Enjoy the soft, flavorful chapatis with your favorite curry or accompaniment!
