Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
300g Fresh tomatoes, roughly chopped
1 small Onion, roughly chopped
150g Fresh coconut
5 cloves Garlic
2 cm Ginger, roughly chopped
3 Fresh green chillies (adjust to taste)
2 tbsp Oil
1 tsp Cumin seeds
½ tsp Turmeric
½ tsp Red chilli powder
400g tin Marrow fat peas or frozen peas
Salt To taste
1 tsp Fresh coriander, chopped

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Masala: Begin by blending the fresh tomatoes, onion, coconut, garlic, ginger, and green chillies together with 200ml of water until you achieve a smooth paste. This will form the base of your curry.

  2. Heat the Oil: In a large pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the cumin seeds and sauté them until they become fragrant, which will release their natural oils and flavor.

  3. Cook the Blended Mixture: Carefully pour the blended mixture into the pan. Allow it to cook for approximately 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. This step is crucial as it allows the flavors to meld beautifully.

  4. Spice It Up: Add the turmeric and red chilli powder to the pan. Stir well and continue to cook, allowing the masala to thicken and develop a rich, deep color.

  5. Add the Peas: Incorporate the marrow fat peas (or frozen peas) into the pan. Add about 50ml of water to help the peas cook through, stirring gently to combine.

  6. Simmer: Continue cooking the curry until the peas are soft and fully cooked, about another 5-7 minutes. Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt as needed.

  7. Garnish and Serve: Once cooked, remove the pan from heat. Sprinkle the curry with freshly chopped coriander before serving. Pair it with fluffy rice or warm naan for a complete meal.

This Mushy Pea Curry is not only easy to prepare but also a wonderful way to incorporate wholesome ingredients into your diet. Enjoy this comforting dish any night of the week and impress your family and friends with its vibrant flavors and delightful aroma!
