Moroccan Cigars Recipe

Description: This delightful recipe for Moroccan Cigars is a cherished creation from my dear friend, FootsieBear. With a touch of North African flair, these savory cigars are bursting with flavor, featuring a blend of lean ground beef and lamb, infused with aromatic spices and wrapped in delicate phyllo pastry. For an extra kick, I recommend adding red pepper flakes and swapping out the parsley for cilantro. Serve these golden delights alongside a zesty Harissa Dip for an unforgettable culinary experience!

Instructions:

  1. Preheat Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 300°F (150°C).

  2. Prepare Filling: In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add finely chopped onion and cook until softened.

  3. Cook Meat: Add lean ground beef and lamb to the skillet, breaking it up with a fork as it cooks. Season with ground cinnamon, allspice, ginger, and pepper. Cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring frequently, until the meat is thoroughly cooked and free of lumps.

  4. Add Cilantro: Stir in freshly chopped cilantro and continue cooking for another minute or two.

  5. Prepare Egg Mixture: In a separate bowl, lightly beat the egg. Pour it over the meat mixture, stirring constantly until the egg sets to a creamy consistency. Adjust seasoning as desired and allow the mixture to cool.

  6. Prepare Phyllo Pastry: Carefully cut each sheet of phyllo pastry into three equal-sized rectangles. Stack them on top of each other and cover with a damp towel to prevent drying.

  7. Assemble Cigars: Lightly brush one rectangle of phyllo pastry with melted butter. Place a teaspoon of the meat filling along one of the short edges. Fold the edge and ends of the pastry over the filling, then roll it into a cigar shape. Repeat with the remaining rectangles.

  8. Fry Cigars: Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the cigars until golden brown on all sides. Drain excess oil on paper towels and keep warm in the oven while you fry the remaining cigars.

  9. Serve: Once all cigars are cooked, arrange them on a platter and serve with a side of Harissa Dip for dipping.

  10. Enjoy: Indulge in the rich flavors of these Moroccan Cigars, savoring each bite with the spicy kick of Harissa Dip. Perfect for entertaining or as a special treat for your loved ones!

With just a few simple steps, you can recreate this exotic dish in your own kitchen and transport your taste buds to the vibrant streets of Morocco. Gather your ingredients and embark on a culinary adventure that’s sure to impress! Bon appétit! 🇲🇦🌯🔥
