Tumis Sawi with Beef Meatballs

Tumis Sawi, a delightful stir-fry featuring crisp white cabbage and savory beef meatballs, is an easy yet flavorful dish perfect for any meal. Here’s how to prepare this delectable recipe, infused with aromatic spices and a touch of richness.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 head of white cabbage (sawi putih)
  • 4 beef meatballs (baso sapi)
  • 5 shallots (bawang merah)
  • 3 cloves of garlic (bawang putih)
  • 3 small red chilies (cabe rawit merah)
  • 1 bay leaf (daun salam) (optional)
  • Sugar (gula), to taste
  • Salt (garam), to taste
  • 1 teaspoon beef-flavored seasoning (Royco rasa sapi)
  • 1 tablespoon butter (mentega)
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • Oil for cooking

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:

    • Slice the white cabbage into thin strips and rinse thoroughly under cold water. Drain and set aside.
    • Clean and thinly slice the shallots and garlic. If you have them, slice the small red chilies into thin rounds. Note: If you’re out of bay leaves, you can omit this step.
  2. Prepare the Meatballs:

    • Cut the beef meatballs in half and then slice each half into thin strips.
  3. Cook the Aromatics:

    • Heat a splash of oil in a large skillet or wok over medium heat. Add the shallots, garlic, and bay leaf (if using). Sauté until fragrant and the shallots are translucent.

  6. Add Liquids and Seasoning:
