Category: Main Dish
Serves: 4
Ingredients:
Ingredient | Quantity |
---|---|
Beef slices (preferably lean) | 600g |
Green bell pepper | 1 |
Fresh chili peppers | 2 |
Soybean sprouts | 130g |
Soy sauce | 6 tbsp |
Extra virgin olive oil | 3 tbsp |
Chives (finely chopped) | To taste |
Salt | To taste |
Black pepper | To taste |
Basmati rice | 300g |
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Bell Pepper:
- Start by washing the green bell pepper. Cut it in half, removing the stem and seeds. Slice it into thin strips, ensuring they are evenly cut for a perfect texture in the dish.
-
Prepare the Beef:
- Next, slice the beef into thin strips, about 1 cm wide. Season the beef with a pinch of salt and black pepper to taste.
-
Cook the Beef:
- Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat and add 3 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil. Once the oil is hot, add the beef strips and sauté for 10-15 minutes, or until the beef is browned and cooked through. Stir occasionally to ensure it cooks evenly.
-
Cook the Rice:
- While the beef is cooking, bring a pot of water to a boil. Once boiling, add the basmati rice and cook according to package instructions until tender and fluffy. Drain and set aside.
-
Cook the Bell Peppers:
- After the beef has cooked, add the sliced bell peppers to the pan with the beef. Stir-fry for a couple of minutes until the peppers are tender but still retain their crunch.
-
Add Soy Sauce and Chili:
- Slice the fresh chili peppers and add them to the wok along with 6 tablespoons of soy sauce. Stir everything together, ensuring that the soy sauce coats the beef and vegetables. Be mindful not to break the bell pepper strips while stirring.
-
Finish the Dish:
- Once everything is well-mixed and the bell peppers are tender, remove the wok from the heat. Add the finely chopped chives and stir them in gently. This will add a fresh herbal note to the dish.
-
Serve:
- Serve the spicy beef mixture over the cooked basmati rice. If desired, drizzle with additional soy sauce for extra flavor. For a finishing touch, you can sprinkle some toasted sesame seeds on top for added texture and flavor.
-
Optional Garnish:
- To elevate the flavor, you can add a tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds. Simply toast the seeds in a dry pan for a few minutes until fragrant, and then sprinkle over the dish just before serving.
Tips:
- If you prefer a spicier dish, feel free to increase the number of fresh chili peppers or add chili flakes to taste.
- For a more complex flavor, try using a mix of light and dark soy sauce for a richer taste.
- To make the dish more vibrant, you can add other colorful bell peppers, such as red or yellow, along with the green.
This vibrant and flavorful dish combines tender beef with the crunch of bell peppers and the delicate texture of soybean sprouts, all tied together with the umami of soy sauce and the heat from fresh chilies. Paired with fragrant basmati rice, it’s a perfect, easy-to-make dinner for any day of the week. Enjoy!
