Indulge in the rich flavors of Balado Ikan Cakalang dan Telur, a delightful Indonesian dish that brings together tender cakalang fish and hard-boiled eggs, enveloped in a spicy, aromatic sauce. This dish is perfect for those who love a bit of heat and a lot of flavor.

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Cakalang fish 1/2 kg (3 fish)
Hard-boiled eggs 4 pieces
Lime 1, juiced
Spice Paste
Shallots 8 cloves
Garlic 3 cloves
Red chili peppers 5 pieces
Bird’s eye chili peppers 10 pieces (to taste)
Chili powder 1 tablespoon (optional)
Kaffir lime leaves 3 leaves
Shrimp paste To taste
Sugar To taste
Salt To taste
Cooking oil As needed

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fish: Clean the cakalang fish thoroughly and cut it into two pieces. Marinate with lime juice and salt, then fry until golden brown. Set aside.

  2. Make the Spice Paste: Blend the shallots, garlic, red chili peppers, bird’s eye chili peppers, and shrimp paste into a smooth paste, excluding the kaffir lime leaves.

  3. Sauté the Spice Paste: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the blended spice paste along with the kaffir lime leaves until fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.

  4. Add Water: Pour in approximately half a glass of water and stir well. Allow it to simmer until the water reduces slightly.

  5. Incorporate the Eggs: Gently add the hard-boiled eggs to the pan, followed by sugar and salt to taste. Mix well to ensure the eggs are coated with the sauce.

  6. Combine with Fish: Once the sauce thickens and becomes oily, carefully add the fried cakalang fish. Adjust the seasoning to your liking.

  7. Serve: Transfer to a serving dish and enjoy your Balado Ikan Cakalang dan Telur with steamed rice for a complete meal.

This vibrant dish is not only packed with flavor but also embodies the essence of Indonesian cuisine, making it a delightful centerpiece for any meal!
