Description

This Coconut-Lentil Chutney is not just easy; it’s a burst of flavors that will tantalize your taste buds. Passed down from my mom’s kitchen, this recipe guarantees a taste of home. With coconut as the star ingredient, this chutney is vegan-friendly and perfect for those quick meal fixes. Remember to store it in the refrigerator and consume it within a day to savor its freshness!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 coconut
  • 2 tbsp channa dal (split chickpeas)
  • 3 green chilies
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp Urad Dal (split black gram)
  • 1 sprig curry leaves
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

Step Description
1 In a small frying pan, heat 1/2 tsp oil and fry the channa dal until it turns slightly brown. Remove from heat and let it cool.
2 Once cooled, grind the fried channa dal along with grated coconut, green chilies, and salt in a mixer or blender.
3 Slowly add water while grinding to achieve a smooth consistency, similar to that of ketchup.
4 In the same frying pan, heat the remaining 1/2 tsp of oil. Add mustard seeds, Urad Dal, and curry leaves.
5 When the mustard seeds start sputtering and the Urad Dal turns golden brown, remove from heat and add this tempering to the ground coconut mixture. Mix well.
6 Your Coconut-Lentil Chutney is ready to serve! Enjoy it with idlis or dosas for a delicious South Indian meal.
