Spicy Stuffed Tofu: Simple and Easy Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 blocks of tofu (cut each block into 3 pieces and fry until dry)
  • 3 carrots, coarsely grated
  • 1.5 ounces bean sprouts
  • 1 ounce bird’s eye chilies (adjust to taste)
  • 50 ml water
  • 5 tablespoons seasoned flour

Seasonings:

  • 1 large onion
  • 6 cloves of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ground pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar to taste

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu:

    • Take the fried tofu pieces and scoop out the insides. Set aside the tofu shells and the scooped-out tofu in separate bowls.
  2. Sauté the Aromatics:

    • Thinly slice the onion and garlic. Slice the bird’s eye chilies diagonally.
    • In a pan, sauté the onions, garlic, and chilies until they become fragrant and wilted.
  3. Cook the Filling:

    • Add the grated carrots, bean sprouts, and the scooped-out tofu to the pan. Mix well to combine the ingredients.
    • Pour in 50 ml of water to help the vegetables soften quickly.
    • Season with ground pepper, salt, and sugar. Adjust the seasoning to taste.
    • Cook the mixture for a few minutes until the vegetables are tender. Set aside to cool slightly.
  4. Stuff the Tofu:

    • Take the tofu shells and fill them generously with the cooked vegetable mixture. Repeat until all tofu shells are filled.
  5. Coat the Tofu:

    • Prepare a batter by mixing the seasoned flour with water to achieve a semi-thick consistency.
    • Dip each stuffed tofu piece into the batter, ensuring all sides are well-coated.
  6. Fry the Tofu:

    • Heat a generous amount of oil in a frying pan until hot.
    • Fry the stuffed tofu pieces over medium heat until golden brown and crispy, turning only once to avoid excessive oil absorption.
  7. Serve:

    • Once fried, drain the tofu on paper towels to remove excess oil.
    • Enjoy your spicy stuffed tofu as a delicious appetizer or snack.

Notes:

  • Adjust the amount of bird’s eye chilies according to your spice preference.
  • Ensure the batter consistency is not too thick or too thin for the best coating results.
  • Frying over medium heat helps prevent the tofu from burning and ensures even cooking.
