- 1/4 kg ikan tamban (mackerel)
- 4 cloves bawang merah (red shallots)
- 4 cloves bawang putih (garlic)
- 5 red chilies
- 15 bird’s eye chilies
- 2 small tomatoes
- 1 lembar daun jeruk (kaffir lime leaf)
- Salt, to taste
- Sugar, to taste
- Flavor enhancer (optional), to taste

- Begin by cleaning the ikan tamban thoroughly. Pat the fish dry and then fry until golden brown. Set aside.
