Balado Beef Meatballs Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Beef meatballs (bakso sapi)
  • Red or green chili peppers (cabe merah/hijau)
  • Shallots (bawang merah)
  • Garlic (bawang putih)
  • Salt (garam)
  • Oil (for frying)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Meatballs:

    • Begin by slicing the beef meatballs into quarters, making sure not to cut all the way through so that they remain attached at the base. This will help them open up nicely during frying.
  2. Fry the Meatballs:

    • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry the prepared meatballs until they are golden brown and slightly puffed up, which should take about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. Prepare the Balado Sauce:

    • In a mortar and pestle or blender, grind together the red or green chili peppers, shallots, and garlic until you achieve a smooth paste. Add salt to taste and blend well.
  4. Cook the Balado Sauce:

    • In the same pan used for frying the meatballs, add a bit of oil and heat it over medium heat. Add the balado paste and cook, stirring frequently, until the mixture becomes fragrant and is thoroughly cooked.
  5. Combine:

    • Add the fried meatballs to the pan with the balado sauce. Stir well to coat all the meatballs with the sauce and continue to cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  6. Serve:

    • Transfer the balado meatballs to a serving dish. Serve hot as a delicious and spicy addition to your meal.

Enjoy the vibrant and spicy flavors of this Indonesian-inspired dish!
