Sapi Lada Hitam: A Delicious Indonesian Black Pepper Beef Recipe
Ingredients:
- 300 grams beef: Cut into thin strips after boiling until tender
- 3 cloves garlic: Minced
- 2 shallots: Finely chopped
- 1/2 onion: Sliced
- 4 large red chilies: Diced
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon whole black peppercorns
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
- Salt and sugar: To taste
- 2 teaspoons mushroom seasoning
- 200 ml water
- Oil: For sautéing
Instructions:
-
Prepare the Spice Mixture: In a mortar and pestle, grind the garlic, shallots, and black peppercorns into a smooth paste. If you don’t have a mortar and pestle, a food processor can also work.
-
Sauté the Aromatics: Heat a generous amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the ground spice mixture to the hot oil and sauté until the mixture becomes fragrant and the shallots turn translucent.
-
Add Vegetables: Stir in the sliced onion and diced red chilies. Cook until the onions become soft and the chilies are slightly wilted.
-
Incorporate the Beef: Add the tender beef strips to the pan. Stir well to combine with the aromatic base.
-
Season the Dish: Pour in the water and add salt, sugar, mushroom seasoning, and ground black pepper. Mix thoroughly.
-
Flavor Enhancement: Stir in the oyster sauce and sweet soy sauce. Continue to cook, allowing the flavors to meld and the liquid to reduce. Adjust seasoning to taste.
-
Finish and Serve: Once the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency, taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. Serve the Sapi Lada Hitam hot with steamed rice.
Enjoy this savory and spicy Indonesian dish that perfectly balances the richness of beef with the bold flavors of black pepper and sweet soy sauce.
