Ayam Geprek with Sambal Bawang
Ingredients
-
Chicken and Coating:
- 1 pack of chicken breast, cut into small pieces
- 1 pack of all-purpose seasoned flour
- 1 egg
-
Sambal Bawang:
- 15 bird’s eye chilies
- 5 cloves of garlic
- Sugar
- Salt
- Seasoning powder
Steps
-
Prepare the Chicken:
- Cut the chicken breast into small, bite-sized pieces and rinse them thoroughly under cold water.
-
Egg Mixture:
- In a bowl, whisk the egg with a pinch of salt and a dash of pepper to taste.
-
Marinate the Chicken:
- Submerge the chicken pieces in the egg mixture and let them sit for a few minutes to absorb the flavors.
-
Coat the Chicken:
- Take each piece of marinated chicken and coat it evenly with the all-purpose seasoned flour. Ensure each piece is thoroughly covered for a crispy texture.
-
Fry the Chicken:
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, fry the coated chicken pieces until they are golden brown and crispy. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken and place it on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
-
Prepare the Sambal Bawang:
- In a separate pan, lightly fry the bird’s eye chilies and garlic cloves until they are fragrant and slightly softened.
- Using a mortar and pestle, coarsely grind the fried chilies and garlic. Add a pinch of sugar, salt, and seasoning powder to taste, adjusting the seasoning according to your preference.
-
Combine and Serve:
- Place the fried chicken pieces in the mortar with the sambal bawang and gently press them with the pestle to slightly crush and mix them with the sambal.
- Serve the Ayam Geprek with hot steamed rice and cucumber slices for a refreshing side.
