Perfect for a flavorful appetizer or main course, this recipe combines crispy tofu with a robust, spicy sauce for a truly satisfying meal. Follow these steps to make this savory treat:

Ingredients:

For the Tofu Balls:

  • 8 pieces of white tofu
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • To taste: Royco chicken seasoning
  • To taste: Salt
  • To taste: Sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

For the Spicy Sauce:

  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 4 shallots
  • 1/2 onion
  • 5 red curly chilies
  • 15 bird’s eye chilies
  • 4 tablespoons tomato ketchup
  • 4 tablespoons chili sauce
  • 1 red chili, sliced thinly
  • 1 stalk green onion
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • To taste: Soy sauce
  • To taste: Sugar
  • Cooking oil
  • Water

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu Balls:

    • Start by mashing the tofu in a bowl. Squeeze out excess water to ensure the tofu mixture is firm.
    • Add the minced garlic, egg, ground black pepper, sugar, and Royco chicken seasoning to the tofu. Mix well.
    • Incorporate the all-purpose flour and baking powder into the mixture. Mix until fully combined.
    • Shape the mixture into small, round balls according to your preference.
    • Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the tofu balls until they turn golden brown and crispy. Remove and set aside.
  2. Make the Spicy Sauce:

    • Blend the red chilies and garlic cloves with a pinch of salt until smooth.
    • Lightly crush the bird’s eye chilies to release their flavors.
    • In a pan, heat some oil and sauté the chopped onion until it becomes translucent.
    • Add the blended chili-garlic mixture and cook until fragrant.
    • Stir in the tomato ketchup, chili sauce, and a bit of water. Simmer until the sauce starts to bubble.
    • Add the sugar and adjust the seasoning to taste. Stir in the red chili slices and sliced green onion.
    • Allow the sauce to cook until all the flavors meld together and it reaches your desired consistency.
  3. Combine and Serve:

    • Gently toss the fried tofu balls in the spicy sauce until well-coated.
    • Serve immediately, garnished with additional sliced red chilies and green onion if desired.

Enjoy your Bakso Tahu Goreng Saus Pedas as a delightful appetizer or a spicy addition to your meal. The crispy tofu balls paired with the zesty and fiery sauce create a perfect balance of flavors and textures.
