Simple Spicy Tuna Recipe (Ikan Tongkol Balado)

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of tuna (ikan tongkol)
  • For the Spice Blend:
    • 7 shallots
    • 1 garlic clove
    • 8 curly red chilies
    • 4 birdโ€™s eye chilies (or adjust to taste)
    • Salt to taste
    • Sugar to taste
    • A dash of flavor enhancer (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tuna:

    • Clean the tuna thoroughly until the water runs clear. Itโ€™s important to ensure the fish is well-cleaned to avoid any bitterness.
  2. Make the Spice Blend:

    • Blend or grind the shallots, garlic, curly red chilies, and birdโ€™s eye chilies into a smooth paste.
  3. Fry the Tuna:

    • Heat some cooking oil in a pan.
    • Fry the tuna pieces until they turn golden brown and crispy. Remove from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.
  4. Prepare the Balado Sauce:

    • In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed and heat it up.
    • Add the prepared spice blend to the hot oil. Cook the mixture for about 5-10 minutes, or until the spices are aromatic and the oil starts to separate.
  5. Combine and Serve:

    • Add the fried tuna pieces to the pan with the balado sauce. Stir well to coat the tuna with the spicy sauce.
    • Cook for a few more minutes to let the flavors meld together.
  6. Serving:

    • Your Ikan Tongkol Balado is now ready to be served. Enjoy this flavorful dish with steamed rice and your favorite side dishes.

Happy Cooking! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜
