Spicy Tongkol Tuna (Tongkol Pedas) Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 5 shallots
  • 1 kaffir lime leaf
  • 4 small chili peppers (cabai rawit)
  • 5 red chili peppers
  • Salt, to taste
  • ½ piece of palm sugar (gula jawa)
  • Water, as needed
  • 2 pieces of tongkol tuna
  • 1 tomato

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tuna:

    • Clean and cut the tongkol tuna into pieces.
    • Fry the tuna pieces until they are half-cooked. Set aside.
  2. Make the Spice Paste:

    • Blend the garlic, shallots, small chili peppers, and salt together until smooth.
    • Pound the kaffir lime leaf and mix it with the blended spices.
  3. Cook the Sauce:

    • Heat a pan and sauté the spice paste until fragrant.
    • Add the palm sugar and a little water to the pan. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is well combined.
  4. Combine Ingredients:

    • Add the half-cooked tuna pieces to the pan with the sauce.
    • Cook until the tuna is fully cooked and has absorbed the flavors.
  5. Finish the Dish:

    • Slice the tomato and add it to the pan.
    • Continue cooking for a few more minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  6. Serve:

    • Transfer the spicy tuna to a serving plate and enjoy!
