Nila Asam Pedas: A Flavorful Spicy Fish Delight

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams Nile tilapia, cleaned
  • 1 small carrot
  • 1 onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce
  • 3 tablespoons tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon mushroom bouillon
  • 3 tablespoons margarine or vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch or flour
  • Fish seasoning blend
  • 2 cm turmeric, peeled
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1 large clove garlic

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fish: In a mortar and pestle or food processor, grind the fish seasoning blend along with the turmeric, salt, coriander, and a large clove of garlic until finely blended. Rub this mixture thoroughly over the cleaned tilapia. Allow the fish to marinate for at least 1 hour to absorb the flavors.

  2. Fry the Fish: Heat some oil in a pan and fry the marinated fish until golden and crispy. Remove and set aside.

  3. Prepare Vegetables: Slice the carrot into matchstick-sized pieces, dice the onion, and finely chop the garlic.

  4. Cook the Vegetables: In a separate pan, heat the margarine or vegetable oil. Add the chopped garlic and sautรฉ until fragrant. Add the diced onion and continue to cook until it becomes translucent. Add the carrot and cook until it begins to soften.

  5. Make the Sauce: Stir in the chili sauce and tomato sauce. Add a small amount of water and the mushroom bouillon. Mix well and adjust the seasoning to taste.

  6. Thicken the Sauce: Combine the cornstarch (or flour) with a little water to make a slurry. Stir this mixture into the sauce to thicken it slightly.

  7. Combine and Serve: Pour the sauce over the fried fish, ensuring it is well-coated. Serve immediately and enjoy!

This dish brings a delightful blend of spices and tangy flavors to your table, perfect for a satisfying meal.
