Shirataki Sardines: A Flavorful Diet-Friendly Dish

Ingredients

  • 200 grams Shirataki noodles (drained)
  • 60 grams canned sardines (I used King Fisher in tomato sauce)
  • 2 red curly chilies, sliced
  • 3 bird’s eye chilies, sliced (I was craving spiciness, though it could have been a bit more)
  • 1 clove garlic, thinly sliced
  • 2 shallots, thinly sliced
  • 1 piece ginger, sliced
  • Olive oil, to taste
  • Water, as needed
  • Salt, to taste (I’m avoiding salt for this recipe)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shirataki Noodles: Begin by draining the Shirataki noodles thoroughly and rinsing them under cold water to eliminate any odor. Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil, then add the Shirataki noodles. Boil for about 5 minutes, then drain and set aside.

  2. Sauté Aromatics: In a skillet, pour in a splash of olive oil and heat over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the sliced shallots, garlic, red curly chilies, and ginger. Sauté until the mixture is fragrant and the shallots are translucent, about 3-4 minutes.

  3. Add Sardines: Gently add the canned sardines to the skillet, breaking one fish into smaller pieces while keeping the other intact. Pour in a small amount of water to create a bit of sauce and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.

  4. Combine with Shirataki: Once the sardines are heated through and the dish begins to bubble, add the pre-cooked Shirataki noodles to the pan. Stir well to combine all ingredients, allowing the flavors to meld for another 2-3 minutes.

  5. Serve: Taste your dish and adjust seasoning as necessary, though I found it flavorful enough without adding salt or additional seasoning. Once everything is well mixed and heated, transfer to a plate and enjoy your healthy Shirataki Sardines!
