Spicy Shredded Tuna (Tongkol Suir Balado) Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 3 pieces of smoked tuna (fried and shredded)
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 5 shallots
  • ½ small tomato
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ sachet of Royco seasoning
  • 8 curly chilies (or to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Begin by finely chopping the garlic, shallots, and tomato. If you prefer a spicier dish, adjust the number of curly chilies to suit your taste.

  2. Make the Spice Paste: In a blender or food processor, combine the garlic, shallots, tomato, and curly chilies. Blend until you achieve a smooth paste.

  3. Cook the Spice Paste: Heat a bit of oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the spice paste and sauté until fragrant and the oil starts to separate from the paste.

  4. Add the Tuna: Stir in the shredded smoked tuna. Mix well to ensure the tuna is evenly coated with the spice paste.

  5. Simmer: Pour in 10 tablespoons of water and stir. Add the granulated sugar and Royco seasoning, mixing thoroughly.

  6. Adjust the Flavor: Allow the mixture to simmer, stirring occasionally, until the water is absorbed and the flavors are well combined. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.

  7. Serve: Once the sauce has thickened and the flavors have melded together, remove from heat. Serve hot with steamed rice or as a flavorful topping for other dishes.
