Tahu Isi Mercon: Spicy Stuffed Tofu Recipe

Ingredients

Firm tofu 5 pieces
All-purpose flour 250 grams
Egg 1 large
Garlic 3 cloves
Red onion 4 cloves
Green onions 1 bunch
Celery 1 bunch
Granulated sugar 1 tablespoon
Salt 1 teaspoon
Fresh turmeric 1 small piece
Yellow noodles 1 packet
Bird’s eye chilies 20 pieces

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Tofu: Slice the firm tofu into halves and fry until golden. Carefully create a pocket in the center of each piece and set aside.

  2. Make the Filling: Blend together the red onion, garlic, bird’s eye chilies, and salt until finely ground. Sauté this mixture in a pan until fragrant.

  3. Add Ingredients: Pour in a little water, then add the chopped celery, granulated sugar, and previously soaked yellow noodles. Stir until all ingredients are well combined.

  4. Prepare the Batter: In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, egg, salt, ground garlic, fresh turmeric, chopped green onions, and a bit of hot water. Mix until a smooth batter forms.

  5. Stuff the Tofu: Fill each fried tofu pocket with the spicy mixture, then dip each stuffed tofu into the batter.

  6. Fry Until Golden: Heat oil in a pan and fry the coated tofu until golden brown and crispy.
