Spicy Sweet Gurame Fillet

Ingredients

  • For the Fish:
    • 1 large gurame fish (filleted, with bones reserved)
    • 1 lime (for marinating)
    • 1 package Sajiku flour
  • For the Sauce:
    • 4 tablespoons tomato sauce
    • 2 tablespoons chili sauce
    • 1 tablespoon Saori oyster sauce
    • 1 onion, sliced lengthwise
    • 3 shallots, finely chopped
    • 2 cloves garlic, minced
    • 2 red chilies, sliced diagonally
    • 4 bird’s eye chilies, finely chopped
    • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (dissolved in water)
    • 1 green onion, sliced diagonally
    • 1/4 cup water
    • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
    • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Fish:

    • Rub the filleted fish with lime juice and let it marinate for a while. This step not only enhances the flavor but also helps to tenderize the fish.
  2. Coat the Fish:

    • In a bowl, pour the Sajiku flour and gradually add water to create a smooth batter. Dip the fish fillets into the batter until well coated, then fry them in hot oil until they turn golden brown and crispy.
  3. Fry the Fish Bones:

    • While the fillets are frying, use the reserved fish bones. Fry them until they are crispy as well, providing a delightful contrast to the tender fillets.
  4. Prepare the Sauce:

    • In a pan, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion, shallots, and garlic, cooking until fragrant and translucent.
    • Stir in the tomato sauce, chili sauce, and Saori oyster sauce. Mix well to combine the flavors.
  5. Thicken the Sauce:

    • Pour in the cornstarch mixture, ground pepper, and water. Stir continuously until the sauce thickens, creating a luscious coating for the fish.
    • Add the chopped bird’s eye chilies and red chilies for a spicy kick, followed by the salt. Continue to stir until everything is well blended.
  6. Assemble the Dish:

    • Place the fried fish fillets on top of the crispy fish bones on a serving plate. Generously drizzle the spicy sweet sauce over the fillets.
  7. Garnish:

    • Finally, sprinkle the sliced green onion on top for a fresh touch.
  8. Serve:

    • Enjoy your Spicy Sweet Gurame Fillet while hot, perfect with steamed rice or as a delightful centerpiece for any meal!
