Prepare the Tempe: Slice the tempe into 1 cm thick pieces and make a slit halfway through each piece.

Make the Sambal: Clean and prepare the sambal ingredients. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan, add the sambal mixture, and cook until fragrant. Remove from heat and transfer to a mortar and pestle. Crush to your desired consistency (coarse or fine).

Prepare the Batter: In a mixing bowl, combine all the batter ingredients. Mix well and adjust seasoning to taste.

Stuff the Tempe: Fill each tempe piece with the sambal mixture according to your preference.
