Tahu Cabe Garem

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
Firm tofu (medium size) 5 pieces, cut into 16 pieces
Large red chili (cabe rawit merah) 4 pieces
Small green chili (cabe rawit ijo) 5 pieces
Large garlic cloves 5 pieces
Green onion (daun bawang) 1 stalk
Salt To taste
Cooking oil For frying and sautéing
Dry Ingredients
Cornstarch (tepung maizena) 5 tablespoons
All-purpose flour (tepung terigu) 3 tablespoons
Multi-purpose seasoning flour 3 tablespoons

Instructions

  1. Cut the tofu into 16 pieces, sprinkle with salt, or soak in salt water for about 20 minutes to allow the salt to penetrate.
  2. Finely chop the garlic, and slice the red and green chilies, and green onion; set aside.
  3. In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, and multi-purpose seasoning flour. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and optional seasoning, mixing until well combined.
  4. Coat each piece of tofu with the flour mixture and fry in hot oil until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels. Repeat until all tofu is fried.
  5. Sauté the chopped garlic in a pan until fragrant, then add the red and green chilies, cooking until the garlic turns golden brown. Stir in the green onions and a pinch of salt, cooking briefly before turning off the heat.
  6. Add the fried tofu to the pan, tossing gently to mix with the garlic and chilies. Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary, then serve.

Optional Addition: For added flavor, you can incorporate fried chicken skin and meat. This is a great way to use leftover chicken in your fridge! Enjoy your Tahu Cabe Garem!
