Spicy Tuna Red Rice Stir-Fry (Nasi Beras Merah Goreng Tuna)

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons of cooked red rice
  • 1/2 can of tuna (preferably in olive oil)
  • 1 large egg
  • 5 kaffir lime leaves
  • 4 shallots
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1 red chili pepper
  • 3 bird’s eye chilies
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • Salt, to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking

Instructions:

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Thinly slice the shallots, garlic, onion, red chili pepper, and kaffir lime leaves. Set aside.

  2. Sauté Aromatics: Heat a generous amount of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add the sliced shallots, garlic, and onion. Sauté until fragrant and the onions become translucent.

  3. Add Chilies: Stir in the sliced red chili pepper, bird’s eye chilies, and kaffir lime leaves. Cook briefly until the chilies release their aroma.

  4. Cook the Egg: Push the sautéed aromatics to one side of the skillet. Crack the egg into the empty side of the skillet and scramble it, incorporating it with the aromatics as it cooks.

  5. Add Tuna: Drain the tuna and add it to the skillet. Stir to combine with the aromatics and egg. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.

  6. Combine with Rice: Add the cooked red rice to the skillet. Stir well to mix everything evenly.

  7. Season: Pour in the oyster sauce and soy sauce. Stir to ensure the rice is well coated with the sauces. Season with salt to taste.

  8. Taste and Adjust: Taste the dish and adjust the seasoning if needed. Cook for an additional minute to let the flavors meld together.

  9. Serve: Once everything is well combined and heated through, remove from heat. Serve hot, garnished with additional kaffir lime leaves if desired.

Enjoy this flavorful and spicy red rice stir-fry as a satisfying meal that’s perfect for any time of the day!
