Ikan Tongkol Pete Kuah Pedas (Spicy Tuna with Stink Beans)

Ingredients:

  • 1 tuna (ikan cakalang), cleaned and cut into pieces
  • 1 bunch stink beans (pete), cleaned and sliced as desired
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 3 shallots
  • 3 large chilies
  • 7 bird’s eye chilies
  • 2 medium tomatoes
  • Salt, to taste
  • Sugar, to taste

Steps:

  1. Preparation of Tuna:

    • Start by cleaning the tuna thoroughly. Once cleaned, cut the tuna into pieces and fry until half-cooked. This ensures that the fish won’t fall apart during the cooking process.
  2. Preparation of Stink Beans:

    • Clean the stink beans and slice them according to your preference.
  3. Making the Spice Paste:

    • Combine the garlic, shallots, large chilies, and bird’s eye chilies. Blend them together into a smooth paste. Add salt and sugar to taste. Slice the tomatoes separately.
  4. Cooking:

    • In a pan, sauté the blended spice paste along with the sliced tomatoes and stink beans. Add a little water to help soften the beans.
    • Once the beans are slightly tender, add the half-cooked tuna pieces. Stir well to ensure the fish is well-coated with the spice mixture.
    • Continue to cook until the spices are well-incorporated and the tuna is fully cooked.
  5. Serving:

    • Serve the Ikan Tongkol Pete Kuah Pedas hot, accompanied by steamed rice.
