Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough mixture:

    • In a large saucepan or mixing vessel, add yogurt, jeera (cumin seeds), green chili paste, chopped coriander, salt, and sunflower oil. Whisk everything thoroughly until smooth and free of lumps.
    • Add 1/2 cup of water to the mixture and stir it well, ensuring everything is combined.
  2. Cook the base:

    • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over low heat. Once boiling, lower the flame and gradually add the whole wheat flour to the center, stirring continuously.
    • Allow this mixture to cook on low heat for about 4 to 5 minutes, allowing the flour to absorb the yogurt mixture.
  3. Mix and knead:

    • Turn off the flame and vigorously mix the mixture using a wet wooden spatula or stick for about 2 minutes, until it starts to come together as a dough.
    • Cover the dough and let it cool down slightly, just enough so that you can handle it with your hands.
    • Once the mixture is cool, knead it thoroughly for about 5 to 6 minutes until it becomes soft and smooth.
  4. Divide and shape the dough:

    • Divide the dough into 10 equal portions. Roll each portion into a small ball (pedas) by kneading it for about 20 seconds.
    • Using a rolling pin, roll each pedas into a flat chapati, dusting with whole wheat flour as needed to prevent sticking.
  5. Cook the chapatis:

    • Heat a tava (griddle) over medium-high heat. Once hot, place the rolled chapati on the tava and cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side until light golden spots appear.
    • Flip the chapati and smear ghee or oil on both sides. Continue cooking until both sides are crisp and golden brown.
  6. Serve:

    • Serve your Spicy Yogurt Chapati hot with Panchmel Dal, Bharwa Besan Mirch Sabzi, or any other curry of your choice.
    • These chapatis can also be packed in a lunch box for a flavorful meal on the go.

Enjoy this soft, tangy, and spiced bread that brings together the authentic tastes of India in every bite. The yogurt not only adds flavor but also gives these chapatis a soft texture, making them a perfect accompaniment to your favorite vegetarian dishes.

Tips:

  • If you prefer a less spicy version, reduce the amount of green chili paste.
  • You can use ghee instead of sunflower oil for a richer, more traditional flavor.
  • If the dough feels too sticky, add a little more flour to bring it together.

This Spicy Yogurt Chapati recipe is not only a delight for the taste buds but also easy to prepare, making it a perfect option for busy weekdays. With minimal ingredients and quick cooking time, this flavorful bread is sure to become a staple in your kitchen!
