Skull Biscuits Recipe

Category: Desserts
Yield: 30 biscuits

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
All-purpose flour 500g
Butter 380g
Hazelnut flour 240g
Fine salt 1 pinch
Sugar 240g
Pine nuts 30g
Eggs 50g
Vanilla bean 1 pod

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the dough: Begin by placing the all-purpose flour and hazelnut flour in a large bowl. Mix them together using a whisk to combine evenly.

  2. Add the butter: Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the flour mixture. Work the butter into the flour using your fingers until the mixture becomes crumbly.

  3. Prepare the egg mixture: In a small bowl, beat the egg with a pinch of salt. Split the vanilla bean pod lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, and add them to the egg mixture.

  4. Combine the mixtures: Pour the egg mixture into the flour and butter combination, stirring gently until the dough starts to come together.

  5. Knead the dough: Transfer the crumbly dough onto a lightly floured surface. Use your hands to knead it into a smooth, soft dough. If the dough feels too sticky, sprinkle with a little more flour.

  6. Shape the dough: Flatten the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow it to firm up.

  7. Form the skulls: Once chilled, roll out the dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use a round cookie cutter (about 6 cm in diameter) to cut out shapes. For each biscuit, use the handle of a wooden spoon to create eye sockets by pressing into the dough, and then use a knife or skewer to carve two lines forming the nasal cavities.

  8. Add the teeth: Take the pine nuts and gently press them into the dough to form the teeth, positioning them in a row.

  9. Bake the biscuits: Arrange the skull-shaped biscuits on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 12–15 minutes or until they are golden brown around the edges.

  10. Cool and serve: Once baked, remove the biscuits from the oven and allow them to cool on a wire rack. Once fully cooled, your Skull Biscuits are ready to enjoy!

These whimsical skull-shaped cookies are perfect for themed parties or just as a fun treat to enjoy with friends and family. Their hazelnut flavor and delicate texture will be a hit with everyone!
