Gadon Tahu Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 pieces (300 g) white tofu
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 3 shallots
  • 2 candlenuts
  • Bird’s eye chilies to taste
  • 1 large green chili
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon sugar
  • Fresh leaves and skewers for wrapping
  • 1 kaffir lime leaf (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Spice Mixture:

    • Start by finely grinding the candlenuts, garlic, and shallots together until smooth.
  2. Cook the Spices:

    • In a pan, sauté the ground spice mixture along with the kaffir lime leaf (if using) until fragrant and golden brown.
  3. Prepare the Tofu Mixture:

    • Crumble the tofu into a large bowl and mix in the sautéed spices. Add sugar, salt, sliced green chili, and the beaten egg. Combine all ingredients thoroughly.
  4. Wrap and Steam:

    • Place 2 tablespoons of the tofu mixture onto a piece of fresh leaf, placing a bird’s eye chili on top. Fold the leaf around the tofu mixture and secure with a skewer.
    • Arrange the wrapped tofu packets in a steamer and steam for 15-20 minutes until cooked through.
  5. Optional Grilling:

    • For an extra layer of flavor, you can grill the steamed tofu packets briefly before serving.
  6. Serve:

    • Enjoy the Gadon Tahu warm as a flavorful appetizer or side dish.
