Ingredients

Quantity Ingredient
2 raw potatoes
1 1/2 onions
5 salt
3 allspice
1 1/2 beef broth
1 water
6 butter
1/4 light olive oil
2 ground meat

Instructions

  1. Mix together the ground meat, potatoes, onion, salt, and allspice.

    • Ensure thorough mixing by using your hands.
  2. Shape the mixture into Ping Pong-sized meatballs.

  3. Put the broth and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil.

    • Be sure to use a large enough saucepan to accommodate all the meatballs.
  4. Drop in the meatballs and return to a boil. Simmer lightly for 5 minutes.

    • Carefully add the meatballs to the boiling broth and water mixture.
  5. Using a slotted spoon, remove meatballs and drain on a paper towel.

    • This helps remove excess moisture and oil from the meatballs.
  6. Reserve the broth.

    • Set aside the broth for later use.
  7. At this point, you may store the meatballs and the broth (separately) in your fridge for up to 2 days.

  8. When you are ready to serve the meatballs, melt the butter with the oil in a frypan and brown the meatballs on all sides, shaking the pan frequently for even browning.

    • Take care not to overcrowd the pan, ensuring even browning of each meatball.
  9. Add the reserved broth to the pan and simmer until the meatballs are cooked through.

    • The broth adds flavor and helps to cook the meatballs evenly.
  10. If you wish, you may add a little flour to thicken the broth.

    • This step is optional and can be adjusted according to personal preference for gravy consistency.

These Bergie’s Best Meatballs are a delightful blend of flavors and textures, perfect for any occasion. Serve them as a main dish with mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce for a classic Swedish meal, or enjoy them as appetizers at your next gathering. With their savory taste and tender texture, these meatballs are sure to become a favorite in your recipe repertoire. Enjoy! 🍽️🇸🇪
