Stir-Fried Beef with Broccoli
Ingredients:
- 300 grams broccoli, separated into florets and washed thoroughly
- 250 grams beef, cleaned and thinly sliced or coarsely chopped
- 200 grams cherry tomatoes, left whole (optional, for added tanginess)
- 100 grams (1 clove) onion, finely sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed and chopped (optional, for added flavor)
- 2 red curly chilies, sliced diagonally (optional, for added heat)
- 3 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon sweet soy sauce (optional, for a touch of sweetness)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional, for added richness)
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in 2 tablespoons water
- 150 ml water, for blanching broccoli
- Salt and sugar, to taste
- 3 tablespoons cooking oil, for stir-frying
Instructions:
-
Blanch the Broccoli: In a pot, bring 150 ml of water to a boil. Add the broccoli florets and cook briefly until they are just tender but still crisp. Retain the cooking water. Remove the broccoli and set it aside.
-
Stir-Fry the Beef and Aromatics: Heat the cooking oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and beef to the pan. Stir-fry until the onion is translucent and the beef starts to brown. Add the garlic and red chilies (if using) and continue to stir-fry until fragrant and the beef is tender.

Add Flavors: Stir in the oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce (if using), and ground black pepper. Mix well to coat the beef evenly.
-
Combine with Broccoli: Add the blanched broccoli along with the reserved cooking water to the pan. Stir everything together to ensure the broccoli is well-coated with the sauce. Season with salt and sugar to taste.
-
Thicken the Sauce: Pour in the cornstarch mixture and stir continuously until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
-
Add Cherry Tomatoes: Gently fold in the cherry tomatoes. Since they are left whole, they will add a burst of flavor without overwhelming the dish.
-
Final Touches: Allow the mixture to heat through, and then remove from the heat.
-
Serve: Transfer the stir-fried beef with broccoli to a serving dish and enjoy hot.
This dish is a delightful blend of tender beef, crisp broccoli, and juicy cherry tomatoes, all enveloped in a savory and slightly sweet sauce. It’s perfect for a quick and satisfying meal.
