Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tempeh:

  2. Prepare the Aromatics:

    • In a separate pan, heat a small amount of oil over medium heat.
  4. Sauté the Aromatics:

    • Add the sliced shallots and garlic to the pan, sautéing until fragrant and golden brown.
  5. Combine:

    • Once the aromatics are ready, return the fried tempeh to the pan.
    • Stir the mixture well to combine the flavors.
  6. Season:

    • Add sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) to taste, along with salt, pepper, and the optional seasoning (magic powder) if desired.
    • Stir until the tempeh is evenly coated in the sauce and seasoning.
  7. Finish:

    • Taste and adjust the seasoning as needed.
    • Once everything is well mixed, your Tempe Orek is ready to serve!

Tips:

  • Adjust the amount of soy sauce according to your preference for sweetness.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or can be served as a side dish for a more elaborate Indonesian meal.

Enjoy the delicious and savory flavors of this traditional Indonesian tempeh dish!
