Teriyaki Chicken Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 pieces of chicken thighs (cleaned, squeezed with lime juice, and cut into pieces)
- 1 lime
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch, dissolved in a little water
- 3 tablespoons teriyaki sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 piece of ginger, smashed
- Salt, to taste
- Water, as needed
For the Garnish:
- 2 onions, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped coarsely
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced (or use large red chili pepper)
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced (or use large green chili pepper)
Instructions
-
Prepare the Chicken:
- In a bowl, combine the chicken pieces with lime juice and let them marinate briefly. This will add a refreshing zest and help tenderize the meat.
-
Cook the Aromatics:
- Heat a pan over medium heat and add a splash of oil. Sauté the garlic and part of the sliced onions until fragrant and golden brown.
-
Add the Chicken:
- Introduce the marinated chicken to the pan. Cook until the chicken starts to brown and changes color.
-
Season the Chicken:
- Pour in the teriyaki sauce, oyster sauce, black pepper, and add the smashed ginger. Stir well to coat the chicken evenly.
-
Simmer:
- Add enough water to cover the chicken slightly. Let it simmer until the chicken is nearly cooked through.
-
Add Vegetables:
- Stir in the remaining sliced onions and bell peppers (or chili peppers). Cook until the vegetables are slightly tender.
-
Thicken the Sauce:
- Mix the cornstarch with a small amount of water to form a slurry. Pour this mixture into the pan, stirring quickly to thicken the sauce.
-
Adjust the Seasoning:
- Taste and adjust the seasoning with salt or additional pepper if needed.
-
Serve:
- Once the sauce has thickened and the chicken is cooked through, remove from heat. Serve the Teriyaki Chicken hot with steamed rice or your preferred side dish.
This Teriyaki Chicken is a delightful blend of savory and slightly sweet flavors, accented by the fresh crunch of bell peppers and the aromatic touch of ginger. Enjoy this easy-to-make dish as a flavorful weeknight dinner or a satisfying meal for any occasion.
