Cumi Tahu Saus Asam Manis (Sweet and Sour Squid with Tofu)

Ingredients

Small squid (cumi kecil) 2 packs
White tofu (tahu putih) 1 pack (cubed)
Tomato sauce (saus tomat) 2 tablespoons
Chili sauce (saus cabai) 2 tablespoons
Teriyaki sauce 1 tablespoon
Sweet soy sauce (kecap manis) ½ tablespoon
Onion (bawang bombay) 1 (sliced thinly)
Red tomato (tomat merah) 1 (cubed)
Sugar, salt, and flavor enhancer To taste

Ground Ingredients

Bird’s eye chili (cabe rawit merah) 5 (to taste)
Shallots (bawang merah) 6
Garlic (bawang putih) 2

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Squid: Boil the cleaned squid in a pot of boiling water with a pinch of salt until just cooked. Drain and set aside.

  2. Fry the Tofu: Heat oil in a pan and fry the cubed tofu until golden brown and slightly crispy. Drain and set aside.

  3. Sauté the Ground Ingredients: In the same pan, sauté the ground shallots, garlic, red curly chili, and bird’s eye chili until fragrant. Add a splash of water to prevent sticking.

  4. Add Sauces: Stir in the tomato sauce, chili sauce, teriyaki sauce, and sweet soy sauce, mixing well until combined and heated through.

  5. Combine Ingredients: Once the sauce begins to boil, add the cooked squid and fried tofu. Season with sugar, salt, and flavor enhancer to taste, stirring gently to coat everything in the sauce.
