Tuna Asam Manis

Tuna Asam Manis is a delightful dish that combines tender tuna fillets with a savory, tangy sauce, perfect for serving over warm rice. This recipe is not only simple to prepare but also showcases vibrant flavors, making it a favorite for family meals.

Ingredients

  • 200 grams tuna fillet
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (for marinating)
  • 1 clove garlic, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 red chilies, diagonally sliced
  • 1/2 carrot, julienned
  • 2 large tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon chili sauce
  • All-purpose flour, as needed
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Sugar, to taste
  • Chicken broth powder, optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in a little water
  • Oil for frying and sautéing

Preparation Steps

  1. Prepare the Tuna: Slice the tuna fillet into 1.5 cm thick pieces. In a bowl, coat the tuna with all-purpose flour, minced garlic, a pinch of salt, and a little water. Allow it to marinate for about 15 minutes to let the flavors meld.

  2. Coat the Tuna: Place all-purpose flour on a separate plate. Dredge the marinated tuna pieces in the flour, ensuring they are well coated. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the tuna until golden brown. Continue this process until all the tuna is cooked, then drain on paper towels to remove excess oil.

  3. Make Tomato Juice: Grate the tomatoes and strain the mixture to separate the juice from the skins and seeds. Alternatively, blend the tomatoes with a little water and strain. Set aside.

  4. Sauté the Vegetables: In a skillet, sauté the sliced garlic, onion, chilies, and carrot until they are soft and aromatic.

  5. Combine Ingredients: Add the prepared tomato juice to the skillet. Follow this with a splash of water, sugar, salt, pepper, chili sauce, and chicken broth powder (if using). Adjust the seasoning to taste and bring the mixture to a boil.

  6. Thicken the Sauce: Gradually add the cornstarch solution, stirring until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency. If it becomes too thick, you can add a little more water.

  7. Finish the Dish: Gently incorporate the fried tuna into the sauce, stirring briefly to coat the fish.

  8. Serve: Serve the Tuna Asam Manis hot over a bed of warm rice, allowing the rich flavors to meld beautifully with each bite.

Enjoy this flavorful Tuna Asam Manis as a perfect accompaniment to your family meals, offering a delicious blend of textures and tastes that are sure to please everyone at the table.
