Sweet and Spicy Chicken Feet (Ceker Ayam Pedas Manis)

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams chicken feet
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 small piece palm sugar, finely shredded
  • Salt, to taste
  • Chicken broth powder, to taste

For the Spice Paste:

  • 4 shallots
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 15 red bird’s eye chilies (adjust to taste)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Chicken Feet: Begin by boiling the chicken feet until tender, which should take approximately 30 minutes. Once cooked, drain and set aside.

  2. Make the Spice Paste: While the chicken feet are boiling, prepare the spice paste. Blend the shallots, garlic, and red bird’s eye chilies until smooth.

  3. Cook the Spice Paste: Heat a little oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the blended spice paste and sauté until fragrant and cooked through. Stir in the shredded palm sugar and chili powder, continuing to cook until the sugar dissolves and the spices are well-combined.

  4. Add Liquids and Seasonings: Pour in enough water to create a sauce, then season with salt and chicken broth powder. Stir well to combine.

  5. Combine and Simmer: Add the boiled chicken feet to the pan. Stir to coat the chicken feet evenly with the spice mixture. Allow the dish to simmer until the sauce reduces and thickens, and the flavors are well absorbed by the chicken feet.

  6. Finish and Serve: Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary. Once the sauce has reduced and coated the chicken feet nicely, remove from heat. Serve hot and enjoy!

This dish brings a delightful balance of sweet and spicy flavors to your table, perfect for a unique and flavorful meal.
