Spicy Sweet Soy Beef (Daging Sapi Malbie Kecap Cabe Ijo)

Ingredients:

  • 200 grams beef (or as needed)
  • 4 cloves shallots
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 2 small chili peppers (for added heat, adjust to taste)
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 stick cinnamon
  • 1 medium onion
  • Salt, sugar, and sweet soy sauce (Kecap Manis Bango) to taste
  • Cooking oil

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Beef: Begin by boiling the beef until tender. Once cooked, cut the beef into small, bite-sized pieces.

  2. Blend the Aromatics: In a blender, combine the shallots, garlic, and small chili peppers. Blend until you have a smooth paste.

  3. Prepare the Spices: Lightly crush the nutmeg and cinnamon stick. Use only a small amountโ€”approximately 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg is sufficient.

  4. Sautรฉ the Ingredients: Heat some cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the blended spice paste, chopped green chilies, and sliced onion to the pan. Sautรฉ until fragrant and the onions are translucent.

  5. Combine Beef and Seasonings: Add the tender beef pieces to the pan. Season with salt and sugar to taste. Stir well to combine.

  6. Add Sweet Soy Sauce: Pour in the sweet soy sauce (Kecap Manis Bango) to taste. Stir to ensure the beef is evenly coated with the sauce.

  7. Simmer: Let the mixture cook until the flavors are well incorporated and the sauce has thickened slightly. Adjust seasoning as needed.

  8. Finish and Serve: Once the beef is well-coated with the flavorful sauce and tender, turn off the heat. Serve hot and enjoy this delicious, spicy-sweet beef dish!
