Spicy Sweet Soy Beef Meatballs (Baso Sapi Kecap Pedas)

Ingredients:

  • 10 pre-cooked beef meatballs
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 3 red curly chilies
  • 7 green bird’s eye chilies
  • Cooking oil
  • Water
  • 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)
  • A pinch of sugar
  • Salt, to taste
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Meatballs: Cut each beef meatball into four pieces. Briefly fry them in hot oil until lightly browned, then set aside.

  2. Prepare the Aromatics: Slice the garlic and chilies.

  3. Cook the Aromatics: Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Sauté the garlic until fragrant, then add the sliced chilies. Continue to cook until the chilies release their aroma.

  4. Combine Ingredients: Add the fried meatballs to the pan. Stir well to coat the meatballs with the garlic and chilies.

  5. Add Flavorings: Pour in the sweet soy sauce and a splash of water. Stir to combine.

  6. Season and Simmer: Add the ground black pepper, sugar, and salt. Mix thoroughly and let the mixture simmer until it starts to bubble.

  7. Taste and Adjust: Taste the sauce and adjust seasoning if necessary. Once the meatballs are well-coated and the sauce has thickened slightly, remove from heat.

  8. Serve: Transfer the spicy sweet soy beef meatballs to a serving dish and enjoy.

This recipe combines the savory richness of beef meatballs with the bold flavors of sweet soy sauce and spicy chilies, creating a deliciously balanced dish that’s sure to please.
