Sweet and Spicy Sriracha Chicken Pops

Ingredients

For the Chicken Pops:

  • 500 grams chicken fillets, cut into cubes
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • Fresh ginger, to taste (finely minced)
  • 2 tablespoons black pepper
  • Salt, to taste
  • Juice of 2 lemons
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • All-purpose flour, as needed for coating

For the Sriracha Honey Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup Sriracha sauce
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • Juice of 3 lemons
  • 300 grams butter
  • 3 tablespoons sweet soy sauce (kecap manis)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Chicken:

    • Start by finely mincing the garlic and ginger. Toss the minced garlic and ginger with the cubed chicken fillets in a large mixing bowl.
    • Season the chicken with black pepper, salt, and lemon juice. Mix well to ensure the flavors are evenly distributed. Allow the chicken to marinate for at least 15 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  2. Coat and Fry the Chicken:

    • In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then pour it over the marinated chicken. Toss the chicken pieces to coat them thoroughly in the egg.
    • Sprinkle flour over the chicken and toss again until each piece is evenly coated with a light layer of flour.
    • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the chicken pieces, frying in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the chicken pops from the pan and drain on paper towels.
  3. Prepare the Sriracha Honey Sauce:

    • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
    • Add the Sriracha sauce, honey, lemon juice, and sweet soy sauce to the melted butter. Stir well to combine and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
    • Once the sauce has thickened slightly and is well combined, add the fried chicken pops to the skillet. Toss the chicken in the sauce until each piece is thoroughly coated and the sauce has evenly covered all the chicken.
  4. Serve:

    • Transfer the coated chicken pops to a serving platter and garnish as desired. Serve hot and enjoy this sweet and spicy treat!
