Spicy-Sweet Stir-Fried Tempeh and Green Beans (Oseng Tempe Buncis Pedas Manis)

Ingredients:

Tempeh 4 oz (half a block), diced
Green Beans 2 oz, trimmed and cut into bite-sized pieces
Garlic Cloves 3, thinly sliced
Shallots 2, thinly sliced
Bird’s Eye Chilies 4, sliced diagonally (adjust to your spice level)
Red Chilies (Curly Variety) 2, sliced diagonally
Oyster Sauce 1 tbsp (Saori brand preferred)
Salt To taste
White Pepper To taste
Sugar To taste
Sweet Soy Sauce (Kecap Manis) To taste
Water As needed

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Ingredients:
    Start by cutting the green beans into bite-sized pieces and rinsing them well. Dice the tempeh into small cubes. Thinly slice the garlic cloves, shallots, and chilies.

  2. Sauté Aromatics:
    Heat a bit of oil in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, add the garlic, shallots, and chilies. Stir-fry them until fragrant and slightly golden.

  3. Cook the Green Beans:
    Add a splash of water to the pan and toss in the green beans. Season with a pinch of salt and stir well. Taste to check the seasoning.
