Sweet and Spicy Tahu Broccoli
Ingredients:
- 1 package of white tofu (10 pieces), cut into small cubes and soaked in salted water
- 2 heads of broccoli, cut and soaked in salted water
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- Sweet soy sauce to taste
- Brown sugar to taste (finely sliced)
- Salt to taste
- Ground black pepper to taste
- Fried shallots for garnish
For the Spice Mix:
- 1/2 onion, sliced
- 3 cloves red shallots, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, crushed and chopped
- 18 bird’s eye chilies
- 2 red and green chilies
- Bay leaves
- Kaffir lime leaves
Instructions:

Prepare the Tofu:
- Heat oil in a frying pan and fry the tofu cubes that have been soaked in salted water. Fry until they are golden brown but not overly crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.

Cook the Spice Mix:
- In the same pan, sauté the sliced onion, red shallots, and garlic until fragrant.
- Add the bird’s eye chilies, red and green chilies, bay leaves, and kaffir lime leaves to the pan. Continue to stir-fry until the spices are aromatic.

Add Sauces and Sweetener:
- Stir in the oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce, and brown sugar. Mix well.
- Pour in 2 tablespoons of water to help dissolve the sugar and blend the flavors.

Combine Ingredients:
- Add the fried tofu and broccoli to the pan. Season with salt and ground black pepper. Stir well to coat the tofu and broccoli with the sauce.

Simmer:
- Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer until the sauce is almost reduced and the broccoli is tender. Stir occasionally.

Taste and Serve:
- Taste the dish and adjust seasoning if necessary. Once the flavors are well balanced and the sauce has thickened slightly, transfer the dish to a serving plate.
- Garnish with fried shallots and serve hot.
