Sweet and Spicy Tahu Tempe Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 5 small pieces of tofu, cut into cubes
  • 1 block of tempeh, sliced
  • 2 stalks of green onions, chopped
  • 1/2 large onion, sliced
  • 3 shallots, sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 red bird’s eye chilies (adjust to taste)
  • 2 green bird’s eye chilies
  • A pinch of black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce
  • Water, as needed

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tofu and Tempeh: Cut the tofu into small cubes and slice the tempeh. Fry both until they are halfway cooked. This step will give them a nice texture and make them ready to absorb the flavors.

  2. Sauté Aromatics: In a pan, heat a little oil and sauté the sliced onion, shallots, and minced garlic until they are fragrant and golden brown. This will create a flavorful base for your dish.

  3. Combine Ingredients: Add the fried tofu and tempeh to the pan with the sautéed aromatics. Stir well to mix the ingredients.

  4. Add Chilies and Seasonings: Incorporate the red and green bird’s eye chilies into the pan. Then, add the oyster sauce, sweet soy sauce, and black pepper. Mix everything thoroughly.

  5. Simmer and Finish: Pour in a small amount of water to help create a sauce and allow the dish to simmer until the tofu and tempeh have absorbed the flavors and the sauce has thickened.

  6. Serve: Once the dish is well-coated and the sauce has reduced to your liking, remove from heat. Serve hot and enjoy!
