Cuisine: Continental
Course: Side Dish
Diet: Vegetarian
Servings: 4
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

Ingredient Quantity
Apples (peeled) 3-4
Onions (peeled & finely chopped) 4
Lemon (juiced) 1
Vinegar 2 tablespoons
Raisins 1/2 cup
Salt To taste
Sugar 1/2 cup (to taste)
Cinnamon Powder (Dalchini) 1 teaspoon
Sunflower Oil 1 teaspoon

Instructions:

  1. Start Cooking the Base:
Begin by heating 1 teaspoon of sunflower oil over medium heat in a large pan. Add the finely chopped onions and sauté them for about 1-2 minutes until they become translucent and soften.

  2. Add Apples and Spices:
Once the onions are ready, add the peeled and chopped apples to the pan. Stir in the cinnamon powder, salt, vinegar, and lemon juice. Mix everything together thoroughly.

  3. Cook the Mixture:
Reduce the heat to medium-low and continue to cook the mixture, stirring occasionally, until the apples become soft and mushy. This should take about 8-10 minutes.

  4. Incorporate the Raisins and Sugar:
After the apples have softened, add the raisins and sugar. Stir well to combine and let the chutney continue to cook on low heat. Use a potato masher to gently mash the chutney while it cooks, helping to thicken the mixture.

  5. Simmer and Thicken:
Allow the chutney to simmer on low heat, uncovered, until all excess liquid evaporates and the chutney thickens to a spreadable consistency. This may take another 5-7 minutes.

  6. Cool and Store:
Once the chutney has thickened, remove the pan from heat. Let the chutney cool to room temperature before transferring it into clean, dry glass jars. Seal the jars with their lids.

  7. Refrigerate:
Store the chutney in the refrigerator. To extend its shelf life, always use a clean and dry spoon when serving. The chutney can last for up to 2-3 weeks in the fridge.

  8. Serving Suggestions:
Serve your Apple and Raisin Chutney alongside a fresh Bread Toast or pair it with a Chikoo Banana Date Smoothie for a wholesome breakfast or an after-school snack.

Storage Tips:
For best results, make sure to store your chutney in airtight jars and keep it refrigerated. The chutney’s flavor deepens as it sits, making it even more delicious after a few days. The chutney’s versatility also makes it a perfect pairing for sandwiches, cheese platters, or grilled meats.

Enjoy the sweet, tangy flavor of this homemade chutney and bring a new twist to your meals with this delightful recipe!
