Sopaipillas Pasadas Recipe

Sopaipillas Pasadas are a delightful Chilean treat, combining a soft, pumpkin-infused dough with a sweet syrup, perfect for satisfying any sweet tooth. This recipe will guide you through creating these delicious pastries that are sure to impress at any gathering.

Ingredients

Ingredient Quantity
All-purpose flour 3 cups
Baking powder 1 teaspoon
Salt 1 teaspoon
Cooked pumpkin 1 cup
Butter (melted) 3 tablespoons
Oil (for frying) As needed
Chancaca (raw sugar) 1 package (225 g)
Orange peel 1 piece
Cloves 3
Water 2 cups
Cornstarch (maicena) 1 tablespoon

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked pumpkin, all-purpose flour, salt, baking powder, and melted butter. Mix until you achieve a homogeneous dough.

  2. Roll Out the Dough: Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Using a rolling pin, roll it out to about 1 cm thickness.

  3. Cut the Sopaipillas: Use a round cutter to cut out circles of your desired size from the rolled-out dough.

  4. Fry the Sopaipillas: Prick each circle with a fork to prevent them from puffing too much while frying. Heat oil in a deep pan over medium heat and fry the sopaipillas until golden brown on both sides. Remove and place on paper towels to absorb excess oil.

  5. Prepare the Syrup: In a separate pot, combine the chancaca, water, orange peel, and cloves. Heat over medium until the chancaca dissolves, stirring well.

  6. Thicken the Syrup: Once dissolved, mix the cornstarch in a small amount of cold water and add it to the pot. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens and reaches a gentle boil, then remove from heat.

  7. Soak the Sopaipillas: Add a couple of sopaipillas to the syrup, allowing them to soak for a few minutes to absorb the sweet flavors.

  8. Serve: Serve the sopaipillas warm, drizzled with the syrup for an ultimate treat that captures the essence of Chilean cuisine.

These Sopaipillas Pasadas are not only a delightful dessert but also a nostalgic treat that showcases the rich culinary heritage of Chile. Enjoy with family and friends for a taste of tradition!
