Sapi Kecap (Indonesian Sweet Soy Beef)
Ingredients:
- 1/4 kg beef, cut into cubes
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 5 shallots, sliced thinly
- 1/2 onion, chopped
- 1 packet ground pepper
- A pinch of nutmeg, finely ground
- Salt, to taste
- Seasoning powder, to taste
- Water, as needed
- Kecap Manis Bango (sweet soy sauce), to taste
- Oil, for sautéing
- Chopped green onions, for garnish
Instructions:

Prepare the Beef: Cut the beef into small, even cubes. Rinse thoroughly and drain well.

Prepare the Aromatics:
- Mince the garlic and chop the onion.
- Slice the shallots and set aside.

Cook the Shallots:
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Fry the shallots until they are golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.

- In the same pan, add a bit more oil if needed.
- Sauté the minced garlic and chopped onion until fragrant.

- Add the cubed beef to the pan with the garlic and onion.

- Sprinkle the ground pepper, nutmeg, and salt over the beef.
- Add the sweet soy sauce (Kecap Manis Bango) and stir to coat the meat evenly.

- Pour in enough water to just cover the beef.
- Let the mixture simmer until the beef is tender and the sauce has thickened. Adjust seasoning with seasoning powder if needed.

- Once the beef is cooked through and the sauce is reduced to a thick consistency, remove from heat.
